The Treelines at Sofar Sounds Dallas/Fort Worth on May 5, 2013

The Treelines didn’t play first at this month’s Sofar Sounds Show in Dallas, but they were kind enough to get me in, so I’m doing their set first. Because of the way the show was set up, I couldn’t really adjust my shooting angle much without obstructing views or getting in the pros way, so I stayed put. I also only brought the one lens, hence the lack of a ton of variation.

This was my second Sofar show, and I love this setup. It’s great to see bands play a more stripped down set for a truly appreciative audience in a intimate setting. It’s even more special when it’s friends doing it.

The Treelines really caught the audience. I really love Amanda’s voice, and  Tony, Ryan, and Grady always play so well together. It was a great afternoon.

Ella Minnow at Dan’s Silverleaf on May 2, 2013 

Ella Minnow opened up the night of music at Dan’s. I don’t think I had seen them before, but they were great, getting the crowd revved up for a rocking night!

Cozy Hawks closed out the night. It’d been a couple months since I’d seen them last, and they were sounding better than ever. I’m looking forward to their first physical release!

The Demigs at Dan’s Silverleaf on May 2, 2013

The Demigs were the second act on a killer night of music (opener Ella Minnow forthcoming). They were playing a bunch of newer songs and really rocked the room. Killer performance!

The Treelines at The Foundry on April 26, 2013

After missing a week of shows due to illness, it was good to get out and see  The Treelines, who was one of the bands I missed last week. Singer Amanda Newton has a great voice, and the music is incredibly catchy. It was my first time at The Foundry, and I hope to make it here again in the future. The lighting is interesting and a little tough to work with, but the stage is unique.

RTB2 at Hal and Mal’s (Jackson, MS) on April 6, 2013

RTB2 finished up the night. At this point, I was pretty much out of motivation to take a ton of pictures, hence the smaller set of pictures. (Ryan also clearly switched back to his guitar). Tony Ferraro played with them for the bulk of the set as Steve Zissou. They really grabbed the attention of a group passing through from Florida who didn’t want them to stop playing. I also didn’t want them to stop playing. Also, some of Grady’s family was in attendance.

Daniel Markham at Hall and Mal’s (Jackson, MS) on April 6, 2013

Next up on the tour was Hal and Mal’s in Jackson, MS. This was an early show, so we wound through the back country as quickly as we could to get there. This is a neat multi-venue complex not unlike the Gilley’s complex (but smaller). The guys were playing in the restaurant, which provided for a nice, intimate, laid-back show.

Daniel Markham opened this time, and the feature for me was Ryan playing my recently acquired and set-up guitar. Admittedly, this was a big fanboy moment, so I got a few pictures of it.

After RTB2 opened, Daniel Markham followed. He put on a great show as usual.

Immediately after work, I drove up to Little Rock to join RTB2 and Daniel Markham for the start of their tour. RTB2 opened at Maxine’s, a cool little place that I hope to see them play again. Toward the end of the set, Tony Ferraro joined them on bass for a few songs.
